All major attractions are concentrated in the center of Odessa city, and we will start our online journey via Odessa from the Greek square. After a total renovation in 2005, the square became more beautiful and comfortable. Here were opened the two fountains and put benches. A decoration of the square is still a 4-storey shopping center "Athena", which is one of the largest in the city. You can not just go via the variety of boutiques, but have a very tasty and inexpensive lunch in the restaurant complex in Tavriya B. Moving further from the Greek square we get to the Preobrazhenskaya street. Here we see the largest orthodox church in Odessa - the Savior Transfiguration Cathedral. It was founded in 1794, It has the tragical history. The most significant tragedy of which was the complete looting and destruction in 1936. After the Bolshevik government of the city, it was decided to arrange on-site entertainment place of the Cathedral and the main altar was planned to place as a toilet. And due only the intercession of world Academician Filatov the Cathedral was saved from desecration of the holy place. On the spot an altar it was set up the fountain with a large marble vase in the form of a flower (it is called the vase of Filatov). The restoration of the Cathedral began in 1996 when excavations were made and discovered the foundation of the church survived. The money had been collected solely from the donations of individuals and legal entities, residents of Odessa, as well as of foreigners, visiting the city.
The heart of Odessa is the world-famous Deribassovskaya street. It was named by the first Mayor of Odessa - Joseph de Ribas, who developed the plan for the establishment of the city and participated in its construction. The street is small in length and wide. It has no running to the sea, but nevertheless, there is something special and charming. Deribasovsaya is the legendary street. It is calm and beautiful. It fascinates you with its charming simplicity. You can easily fall in love with it. It has a beautiful architecture, the lack of machines, cozy cafes, comfortable and shaded lime trees. Every person has his own reason to love this street. Not far from the Deribasovskaya street is the city park. On May 9, 2007 it was almost ended its restoration. And now the park is better, more comfortable and beautiful. It is pleasantly to see a new rotunda and well-colored flowerbeds in city park. And what a wonderful fountain is here! Every night from 21 to 23.30 hours, it becomes light, colourful and even with music! And, of course, we shouldn't to forgert about the symbols of Odessa: a statue of a lion and lioness, a monument to the 12th chair of the same story of Ilf and Petrov, the monument to an actor and writer Leonid Utesovu.
At the end of the Deribasovskaya street we get to the Lanjeronovskaya street. We view the other architectural masterpiece - the Odessa Opera House. The building is executed in the style of the Viennese "baroque." The facade of the theater is decorated with various sculptures of the heroes of Greek mythology. The busts of creators of Russian Literature and Art are here. Among them - Pushkin, Glinka, Griboedov Gogol. Every visitor admires by the beauty and grandeur of Opera Theater. Not far from the Duma House you can see a monument with very interesting history. It is a monument of Orange, who saved the city. And it is not a joke! The monument depicts the fateful moment in the life of Odessa, when the Emperor Paul had suspended funding for the construction of the city. Then Odessa inhabitants gave him the unusual gift at that time. It was four thousand best Greek oranges. Paul liked the gift so much. That the prince Poul has allocated money, and the construction of the city was continued.
Primorsky Boulevard stretches along the sea shore. It is another wonderful place to relax and walks. Here you can stay for the hours, admiring views of the seaport with vessels, ships and yachts, enjoying the cool shade and the sea breezes. Primorsky Boulevard leads us to the founder of Odessa and a symbol of the city - the monument of Dyuk De Richelieu. Richelieu Monument is not just a symbol of the city and the historical value, it is also Odessa's talisman. Standing at the Duke monument we see the most beautiful view of the Potemkin stairs, and the Naval Station. Potemkin Stairs is really impressive! It has the length of 142 meters and the height of 24 meters.
At the end of the Primorsky Boulevard is the Vorontsov Palace. It is another architectural decoration of Odessa. It is interesting that the palace wasbuilt in different architectural styles. So, it gives the impression of lightness and grace of this palace. An integral part of Vorontsov Palace is the kollonada with a wonderful view of the sea gulf. The Teschin bridge (Mother-in-low bridge) is a little further. The bridge was built by the secretary of regionalcommittee for his mother-in-law. This fact gave the name of the bridge. This is not a joke. Not far from the bridge we fall into a "corner of Old Odessa". Here we see the humpbacked bridge with a beautiful openwork lattice. Odessa inhabitants believe that if you pass under it and think of desire, it will come true. Besides here are wells, which were the main source of drinking water in the city until 1873. Here is the place where you can relax and refresh. It is very cozy and nice cafe "That Odessa". The cafe's fencing, tables and chairs are made in the same style as the Teschin bridge and water wells. It makes the wonderful unique ensemble. Here we finish our travel story about Odessa. But we can tell about this unique city more and more. But the best for everybody is to see Odessa themselves. Because even the most colorful story does not convey a sense of Odessa beauty and delight. Odeesa is really the pearl at the Black Sea.
